iRobot Roomba 980 takes floor cleaning to the next level.
iRobot™, the brand leader in robotic vacuum cleaners, has launched the Roomba 980, its smartest product to date and propels the robot vacuum firmly into the ‘smart home’ arena.
With smart and connected home products becoming a key trend this year, consumers are looking for items that offer real benefit rather than just gimmicks, and with a background in cutting edge robotic technology, iRobot have delivered a Roomba that can take all the hassle out of vacuuming. The latest enhancements all add to the already impressive performance of the Roomba range, which has scored top marks in independent tests time and again.
The Roomba 980 is controlled from iRobot’s new ‘Home’ app, which enables users to start the Roomba cleaning from anywhere, as well as manage the cleaner’s schedule. It creates an actual map of the home, providing an efficient and comprehensive clean.
iRobot co-founder and chief executive Colin Angle said the Roomba 980 “is probably the most significant launch from iRobot since the original Roomba hit floors in 2002. It can create an actual map of the home, which is important because our goal is not to clean a part of your home, our goal is to clean your entire home.”
By bringing its visual simultaneous localisation and mapping (vSLAM) technology to a consumer device, iRobot has once again pushed the boundaries for its home robots.
vSLAM sits at the heart of iRobot’s new iAdapt 2.0 Navigation with Visual Localization technology which allows the Roomba 980 to:
– Not only avoid obstacles, but also intelligently map your floors. A visual sensor along with a floor tracking sensor allows it to know exactly how far it goes in any direction. It can create an actual map of the home
– Clean for a full two hours, before heading back to its home base to recharge and then head back out again to carry on cleaning if it has to!
– Modify how it cleans your home and allows you to check on the results via the app.
The launch of the Roomba 980 confirms iRobot’s position at the cutting edge of home robotics. iRobot can now proudly showcase a wide range of robot vacuums to match the individual needs of every consumer – from vacuuming, scrubbing and mopping to even a robot to clean your gutters.
Clean: twice the cleaning performance2 where it’s needed most dirt doesn’t stand a chance against the Roomba 980, which is smart enough to detect different floor surfaces and optimise its cleaning power based on the type of floor it’s cleaning.
Its AeroForce™ Cleaning System with Carpet Boost provides twice the cleaning power2 by automatically increasing the performance of the Gen 3 motor on carpet and rugs.
The Roomba 980 features a low profile design to clean under furniture, while Dirt Detect™ uses optical and acoustic sensors to detect high concentrations of dirt and debris and perform concentrated cleaning in the areas where it’s needed most. First introduced on the Roomba 800 Series, the Roomba 980 also features brushless, dual counter rotating debris extractors that grab dirt from any floor type while reducing hair tangles and brush maintenance.
