Ariat were founded on technology and innovation- with the goal of making the highest-quality footwear and apparel for the worlds top equestrian athletes; they are an absolutely gorgeous brand that strongly believe in innovation, dedication, balance, riders as athletes and possibilities.
We have been lucky enough to receive two gorgeous pairs of boots from Ariat, both completely different, and we thought we’d put them to the test in the great outdoors!
Kirsty explains, “In more recent years, the popularity of the country style, equestrian boots has risen greatly as fashionable and practical footwear for everyone, not just those from a horsey background. I have to admit, I was a little unsure about trying out these boots as usually, the nearest I get to a horse is passing Dartmoor ponies whilst walking my dogs on the moors, However, I am a very keen walker and have suffered over the years trying to find walking boots that are comfortable, long lasting, actually waterproof, with decent tread (the list goes on), so I was intrigued to try out the Berwick GTX Insulated boots from Ariat.”
She continues, “Taking style and performance to the next level, the Berwick GTX Insulated boots are made from premium waterproof, full-grain leather with a waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX and elegant plaid lining. Designed for comfort during the most temperamental of weather, the 200g Thinsulate Insulation keeps toes toasty, a shock absorbing EVA midsole helps prevent foot fatigue and with easy-off heel kick feature makes them not only straightforward to wear but easy to get on and off.”
“Having suffered for years from weak ankles, I found previous walking boots (even the ankle high ones) do not offer the support I needed. In contrast, the Berwick GTX boots were absolutely fantastic. The boots feature a full length back zip system combined with a front lace system for adjustability and to ensure the perfect fit. They are fantastically well made, well fitting, offer fantastic support around the whole ankle and foot and being knee high and waterproof, are just perfect for coping with the terrain and wonderful wet weather we get here in Devon.
Retailing at £349.99 these are slightly dearer than what I would normally spend on walking boots however, I anticipate that these boots will last me for years to come. The best thing about them is that as well as being practical they look fantastic whether I’m walking the dogs, in the office, socialising with friends or at business meetings for work. The Berwick GTX boots come highly recommended from me.”
Winning Moments Review:
Laura tells us, “When a beautifully packaged box arrived in our offices containing my Berwick Lace GTX Insulated boots, I was extremely excited to try them on. In previous years, I’ve gone through several different styles of walking boot but they’ve never felt quite right. My previous boots have either succumbed to wear and tear within a short space of time, or have been unsuitable for long hikes or exploring. I’m an avid walker, and I’m fortunate enough to live in Looe (Cornwall), and the South West Coastal Path is just a stone throw from our house.
Last weekend, we decided to venture just a short drive from our house, and visited the Kit Hill Nature Reserve just outside of Callington. This beautiful summit features a selection of historic mining structures, with breath-taking views across Cornwall. I slipped on my boots for the first time, with proper chunky walking socks, and they couldn’t have been any comfier. I was quite surprised by how pleasant they felt from the outset; leather boots often take a long time to wear in and can even hurt in those first few hours.”
“We walked for a good couple of miles across a range of terrains, and encountered a lot of muddy puddles! The boots lived up to their claims, with the waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX membrane keeping my feet completely dry. It was a bitterly cold afternoon, and we could see snow topping the hills of Dartmoor in the distance. However, I felt well-supported on the trickier parts of the walk, and my feet were remarkably warm and cosy, thanks to the Thinsulate Ultra insulation that is built into the structure of the boot.”
“Available in two colours, the boots don’t feel clunky or cumbersome; the teak colour felt stylish and fashion-forward, even paired with hiking socks and jeans! The boots also come with a spare pair of laces if you fancy a change of style.I’m confident that these boots will stand the test of time, and for an investment of £179.99, you can be safe in the knowledge that you are purchasing a quality product. They’ll be accompanying me on all of my future walks, whether that be across the sand and rocks of the Cornish Coast Path, or on the moors, with its rugged landscape and challenging environment.”
