Before we flew out to New York we stayed at the Raddison Blu hotel at Heathrow and it was amazing, the travel extras lady upgraded us to a deluxe room with breakfast & £15 bar tab (as there was no lounge at JKF on return leg home). The airport parking that was included within the competition saved us loads of money over the 4 days. We got the hoppa bus with no issues, the airport lounge was great – so quiet & peaceful, we didn’t have a champagne deal as my wife is 3 months pregnant! We then had no issues getting our transfers to the hotel. We then arrived at our hotel in New York; we stayed in the night hotel in Time Square. The hotel was in a great location, about a 30 sec walk to the subway & a stones throw from the centre of Times Square.
After some time to freshen up we headed out into the city:
We visited TIMES SQUARE first to see the huge neon billboards – it’s almost too much for your eyes to take – unreal!
Then onto MACYS department store to do some shopping for our little boy (2) we got him some new PJ’s.
After this, we headed for BYRANT PARK for a drink & to take in some american sunshine & have some chill-out after a long flight (they had a game of musical chairs in the centre of the park!)
We walked to GRAND CENTRAL STATION & were both in awe of how huge the ceiling was & just how hectic it was, really was a sight to behold.
Lastly managed the ROCKFELLA CENTER (no ice rink though – was way too hot) before we went to grab something to eat & catch an early night.
After a much needed sleep we both fancied a good ol’ american style breakfast so we headed to the TIMES SQUARE DINNER – the food portions were HUGE – like crazy big. We couldn’t eat it all! eeek!!
We arranged to rent BIKES to cycle round CENTRAL PARK for 4 hours (it was crazy hot too 27 degrees) this was by far one of the highlights of our trip.
Shortly after setting off, we saw the LAKE & decided to lock up the bikes & rent a row-boat for an hour to take in some of the beautiful sites of the park, like birds, little turtles sunbathing etc it was such fun & something we’ll always remember.
After getting back on the saddles – we stopped for lunch (greek salads on the grass in the summer sun) watching the horse & carts / joggers go past.
Proud to say we cycled the whole of central park – it wasn’t always easy though lol!
Once our 4 hours were up, we took the bikes back & headed to the subway station & bought metro cards to travel to our next destination: THE DOCKS.
We headed to catch our STATUE OF LIBERTY CRUISE.
The weather was lovely whilst queing but soon as we stepped onto the boat, the weather turned bad – like thunderstorm bad.
It was raining hard, which didn’t deter us too much, but did make it a lot harder to take photos of the statue while getting soaked, but it was all part of the experience.
After getting off the boat, we realised that it wouldn’t be long to go to the 9/11 GROUND ZERO MEMORIAL, so got back on the metro & headed straight there.
It was strangely peaceful, though we did think it was weird how people were taking selfies next too it.
Glad we went to see it though, as a reminder of how short / unexpected life can be.
We headed home, catching a McDonalds on way back to our hotel.
After the hectic past couple of days, we decided to have a very relaxed morning, as we had the concert late afternoon, so spent time exploring the city.
The highlight was the HERSHEYS CHOCOLATE SHOP – it was packed full of yummy bits, we brought some to take back as presents.
We made our way to CITI FIELD arena on the metro to see Beyoncé.
The warm up acts were a DJ & some rappers, we didn’t know any of them, but it was just nice for the show to start.
Finally BEYONCE came on just after 9PM (We’d got there for 6pm so it was a loooooong wait)
She was AMAZING, I mean crazy good, can’t fault her at all.
I tried my best pictures-wise but most came out very blurry due to the distance she was away from us & using my phone camera.
The highlight was her dancing in/on the water & fireworks at the end to “Halo”
Must of done around 20 songs, we did have a great time, just a real shame we were so cold & far away from the action.
There was a crazy rush to get out back to the metro – it was pure madness, 40,000 people!!!
Overall we had a lovely break away (our last for a long while i’m sure now we’re expecting another baby in December)
Thank you all for helping us have such lovely memories together on our trip to New York.
